Welcome to the Worm Art Show!

The Worm Art Show has been a highlight of the C. elegans community conferences over the years, celebrating the unique intersection of science and art. This competition encourages participants to delve into the fascinating world of worms and transform their beautiful observations into stunning works of art. Whether you are a seasoned artist, a budding scientist, or simply someone who appreciates the Art of Science, this competition offers a platform to display your creativity and innovation.

Event details

Participation is open for both online and in-person attendees. The Worm Art show will take place throughout the conference duration. Participants are encouraged to place their artwork as soon as the conference starts. There will be a row of poster boards and tables for arranging the artworks. All artworks (in-person and online participants) will also be displayed in a slideshow during the conference.

The Winners are chosen by ballots submitted by the meeting attendees using a displayed QR code. Winners will be announced at the last plenary session.

Categories :

1. Picture a ‘Wormy’ Tale

Submit any microscopic image that beautifully captures the shapes, patterns, or behaviors of worms. This category highlights the intricate and often unseen world of worms through the lens of microscopy. You may also combine your artistic skills with creative writing by showcasing your artwork accompanied by worm-inspired poetry, stories, or jokes.

2. Beyond the ‘Inertia’

Create a mixed media artwork inspired by worm appearance, behavior, or your personal experience with them. Use any medium, including paper, glass, wood, electrical components, drawing, painting, craft, or fabric, to express your creative vision. You can also produce a creative video, movie, flash cartoon, or GIF (up to five minutes long) that illustrates any experience related to C. elegans. Think outside the box to present your idea and share it on YouTube with the hashtags #APWM24 and #Celegans24, so we can easily find your submissions.

3. Asian Worm

In honor of this year's Asia-Pacific meeting, create a piece that depicts a worm embodying Asian lifestyle, culture, and traditions. Use mixed media to highlight the rich cultural heritage and diverse traditions of Asia through the lens of worm art.

Awards & Prizes

Awards will be given in the categories noted above. In addition, prizes will be awarded for most humorous entry, as voted by attendee ballot. Decision will be from both the attendees and the Organizers.

We will accept submissions up until June 12, 2024 (Midnight, IST).

Important Notes :

  1. Stick the title and your name with your work. Ideally, bring the printed copies of everything.
  2. You are responsible for arranging your art during the beginning of the Art Show and removing it afterwards.
  3. You can upload ONE entry of artwork per category.
  4. Title of the artwork should be included at the bottom of uploaded picture also. This is how it will be displayed in the slideshow for voting.
  5. Name the uploaded file with your full name (e.g. AmitSharma.jpg)
  6. The maximum size of each image submitted can be 10 MB.
  7. The maximum size of video submitted can be 100 MB.
